It's been a long time and I stop working on this material.
No, I'm not complaining. I'm catholic and I couldn't help it but doing it with joy. Actually I had fun doing it and, most of all, this project gave me the opportunity to help the church in creating a Cerimony book template for them to be use, next years to come.
The ceremony Book was designed with Google Docs. It's a very easy tool that allows to design piece of cakes. For any other more complex design it's recommended inDesign, of course. Anyway the document is set to be a A5 format, as this book was meant to be hold by persons in the church
The cover includes a visual cue, an olive branch, that can be swapped with another one at own taste and in any case detached from the positioning of the text with the main title. Next, the eye is guided to the bottom right for more info. Then text content is grouped by message and content priority
As any writing tool, it's common sense to take advantage of features like the TOC (Table of Content) so that the navigating the document is easier. By doing so the overall design experience is much better even for the finale user that might want to navigate the document online (in the form of eBook)
The information on the cover is then reported as a visual reminder on the header. Also, more common informations are locked at the bottom. These informations are meant to be the most important to keep in mind
Font pairing are Book Antiqua for all the headlines and Arial for the body. This is the best match not only for visual harmony, but also helpful for eye reading process. To make it even better headlines are red color (typical of sacred documents). Also the typography scale is accessibile
It is a best practice to indicate to the reader the conclusion of the content with a visual cues related to the cover
If the spouses would like a quote, well this book provide them with the last page (or even the back cover) that would do the trick. To make it minimal a visual cue of two rings make it more wedding style
Amanda & I relied on the local print store. We decide to give it an old style with a yellow paper, while papers would have been glued together with a black strip to make it durable through the years to come. We made some copies to hand over the guests at our cerimony.
